Floating Solar Energy Project:MOU signed between GO Energy and STDC

Karachi: GO Energy and Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) have signed a memorandum of understanding for grid transfer and transmission of a 500 MW solar floating project at Kenjhar Lake in Sindh. Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah was the chief guest at the signing ceremony held in Karachi.

Provincial Energy Secretary Sindh Mossadegh Ali Khan, Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company CEO Saleem Sheikh, GO Energy CEO Amar Ali and Haris Jameel Director, CEO Secretariat, K Electric, and other personalities were also present on the occasion.

The 500 MW floating solar project will be one of the world’s largest floating solar installations with state-of-the-art solar panels and floating infrastructure designed to meet the unique challenges of the Kenjhar Lake environment.

 

During construction and implementation, the project will create thousands of jobs, which will boost economic activity in the region and boost Pakistan’s renewable energy industry.

The project will reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels by generating clean energy. Air quality will improve and a greener and healthier Pakistan will be created.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized the need for sustainable, renewable and environment-friendly energy.

He said, “The Government of Sindh is proud to be a part of the 500 megawatt floating solar project in Kenjhar Lake. The Government will provide an enabling environment to attract investment in the renewable industry, reduce dependence on imported oil and help Sindh Reducing the overall cost of energy for the people of This project will be a great achievement and milestone for the Government of Sindh.

Located right in the middle of Sindh, Kenjhar Lake provides an ideal environment for harnessing sunlight to generate clean and sustainable electricity that can be used for agricultural purposes without using land. This project will reduce water vapor losses by more than 50% for the covered surface of Kenjhar Lake. This lake is the main source of fresh water supply for the largest city of Karachi and adjoining areas.

Provincial Secretary Energy Mossadegh Ali Khan said, “We welcome GO Energy’s efforts to build a 500 MW floating solar project in Kenjhar Lake. This historic initiative is fully aligned with our provincial and national goals to enable Renewable energy capacity can be increased and our carbon emissions can be reduced.
