Germany installs 3.5GW onshore wind in 2023
Capacity added latest year beats forecasts by industry associations BWE and VDMA Power Systems
SHARE

Germany installed 3567MW of onshore wind capacity in 2023, with 745 turbines. This exceeds the 3.6GW forecast by industry associations BWE and VDMA Power Systems and surpasses the 2.4GW added in 2022. Deutsche WindGuard compiled the data for the two associations. Currently, Germany has 61GW of installed onshore wind capacity.

Barbel Heidebroek, President of the German Wind Energy Association BWE, emphasized the need for a clear and predictable legal framework to support the wind energy industry’s growth. She highlighted the importance of consolidating positive developments and called for the swift implementation of measures to accelerate wind energy expansion. The associations are advocating for the enactment of decisions made in November 2023, aiming for the installation of 4GW of onshore wind in Germany in 2024.
