62% of Brits want more investment in renewables and 59% want their MPs to push for it.
New research from the Aldersgate Group, Renewables-UK, and CPRE shows we need better planning and more resources to get to net zero.
The report says the current planning system needs to change to handle the scale of new energy infrastructure we need. The challenges are lack of direction, not enough resources and not enough public engagement.
The report says planning reform is key to hitting the 2030 targets which include doubling onshore wind, tripling solar and quadrupling offshore wind And planning should balance community, environmental and landscape impacts.
Rachel Solomon Williams, Aldersgate Group Executive Director, said: “Planning reform will be key to delivering the infrastructure we need for the energy transition but we need to get the balance right for everyone.”
Ana Musat, Renewable-UK Policy and Engagement Director, said: “The government’s clean power by 2030 mission gives us a clear imperative: not just to attract investment in renewables and supporting infrastructure fast but to make the planning system work for deployment.”
