The government has ended the requirement for power generating companies to obtain a license to operate and maintain dedicated transmission lines in order to connect to the grid. Union minister RK Singh announced that this decision will improve the ease of doing business for the industry, leading to faster industrial growth and more job creation. The Union Power Ministry stated that consumers with a specified load and Energy Storage Systems are now allowed to establish, operate, and maintain dedicated transmission lines without the need for a license. Under the new rule, certain power generating companies or individuals will not need a license to establish, operate, or maintain a dedicated transmission line to connect to the grid. Minister Singh also mentioned that government initiatives have reduced distribution company losses and further efforts are being made to bring down the losses even more. He emphasized that these rules will lead to reduced losses and increased viability for distribution companies, allowing them to provide better services to consumers. Additionally, he noted that this change will create a new category of bulk consumers benefiting from more affordable electricity and enhanced grid reliability. Minister Singh highlighted future initiatives, including a significant investment in the power and renewable energy sector, and plans to increase India’s power generation capacity and bid out renewable energy projects.
