GE Vernova and Polimex Mostostal have been assigned the task of constructing the onshore infrastructure facilities for transmitting power from the 1.5-GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in the Polish section of the Baltic Sea.
The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) deal was granted by Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (WSE: PGE) and Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH: ORSTED), PGE announced on Thursday.
The chosen consortium will be responsible for installing a 275/400 kV high-voltage transformer substation and onshore export cable lines to convey electricity from the offshore park to the Polish grid. The connection facilities will be constructed in the Wejherowo district of the Pomerania region.
GE Vernova and its partner will commence construction activities this year and will conduct testing of the interconnection infrastructure in 2026. All facilities are expected to be fully operational in the subsequent year.
Baltica 2 is a component of the 2.5-GW Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project, situated approximately 40 km (24.8 miles) off Poland’s northern coast, between Leba and Ustka. The plant is slated to go online by the end of 2027. All contracts for the supply of offshore components for Baltica 2 are already in place, while a final investment decision is pending.
