In a report yesterday, Bloomberg reported on the electric vehicle (EV) market that BYD aims to build a plant in Karachi with a local partner to tap into Pakistan’s growing growth, citing a person familiar with the matter. can be done

At a later date to the report, BYD aims to launch more models including battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models in the domestic market.

The report said company will open showrooms in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and start sales in the fourth quarter of this year.

A BYD spokesperson confirmed that the company plans to enter the Pakistani market with BEV and PHEV models, but declined to comment on plans for a local plant, the report said.

Bloomberg, the plant will be located near Karachi’s Port Qasim, Area which is home to assembly plants of local subsidiaries of other car companies such as Toyota, Suzuki and Kia.

The report said will be completed in January 2026 and the exact details of the plant are still under discussion,

The report also said BYD has teamed up with one of Pakistan’s largest business groups, Mega Conglomerate Pvt., in a wide-ranging partnership deal.

It said BYD will be working in a joint venture with Mega Motors, a subsidiary of Hub Power Co., Pakistan’s largest independent electricity producer.
