British renewable developer Elements Green has initiated the first stage of community consultations for a plan to construct an 800-MW solar farm with battery storage in the East Midlands of England. The aim is to gather feedback from communities, engage with local authorities, interest groups, and statutory consultees. The developer, based in London, will host a series of in-person events and online exhibitions from January 29 to February 10. This initial consultation stage will conclude on February 27.
The Great North Road Solar Park is slated to be situated northwest of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, and will be linked to an existing National Grid substation. Once operational, it is projected to provide green electricity to approximately 400,000 local homes annually.
As the proposed capacity of the GNR Solar Park exceeds 50 MW, it is categorized as a nationally significant infrastructure project (NSIP) and will require government authorization. Elements Green plans to seek a development consent order (DCP) from the Department of Energy in the spring of 2025.
