One report found that the amount of solar energy under construction in China is almost double the total of the rest of the world.
On Thursday morning, an analysis released by the NGO Global Energy Monitor (GEM) revealed China holds 180 gigawatts (GW) worth of large-scale solar projects that are currently being implemented, alongside another 15 GW connected to wind power farms. Consequently, there is a total of 339GW worth of wind and solar projects currently under construction, which is ahead of the US because it only has 40GW yet built.
In recent years, China’s strong government support has spurred a renewable energy boom. For the country’s
economy to achieve technology and innovation, Chinese President Xi Jinping has been insisting about the necessity of having fresh qualitative productive forces. The president in his argument said that new qualitative productive forces involved the strengthening green manufacturing.”
Between March 2018 and March 2019, GEM analysts detected a higher amount of solar energy that has been placed in China compared to the past three years and more than the globe combined by then. As a result, they managed to install 1,200GW by the
end of 2024 which was approximately six years ahead of schedule; this means that they are now progressing well towards their goal of attaining solar capability.
In addition, the GEM report has indicated that China is the leader in developing planned renewable energy infrastructure. By reaching the stage of construction, the wind and solar energy projects, which adds up to 339 GW, are third part of what had been proposed far while the rest of the world has managed only up to 7 % under construction.
Li said China’s renewable energy pipeline is twice that of the rest of the world. “But increasingly, we should be wondering why other parts of the world seem so slow.”
